Alongside May Balls and Garden Parties, another event fast becoming a staple of the Cambridge summer lineup is local festival, Strawberries and Creem. This one-day festival, focusing on Grime, dancehall, house and garage music, has expanded vastly in the few short years since it’s conception in 2014.

Over that time, big names such as Nelly, Skepta, Big Narstie and Kano have all played sets in the fields of Cambridge and the festival team is promising even bigger and better things this summer.

Over forty acts have already been announced, the most notable being up and coming grime artist AJ Tracey. Tracey featured on TCS’s sounds of 2017 playlist, tipped to make it big in the grime scene in the coming months and so he is an exciting indicator of the ambition of the Strawberries and Creem team. Also included are garage pioneers Artful Dodger and So Solid Crew as well as Donae’o and Heatwave. The festival also promises more stages and an even more impressive festival experience for the grime and garage fans that flock to the site on Saturday 17th June.

The three biggest headliners are yet to be announced but fans should keep their eyes peeled for big announcements soon. Though the vibes of Strawberries and Creem may not be to every student’s taste, the festival has had unprecedented success since it was thought up by Manchester graduates living in the city.

Doubling its capacity to 10,000 this year, demand is obviously huge for this promoter of alternative British music, and with grime finally receiving recognition in the mainstream realm of music (Stormzy’s debut album grabbed the number one spot last week), Cambridge’s one-day festival will likely become even more popular. Whether frontrunner Stormzy will feature in the final line-up of Strawberries and Creem remains to be seen, but nonetheless the fens are set to tremble with the beats of grime for another day of festival fun this June.
