Apply to be a TCS Board Member

The Cambridge Student is looking for two members to join its Board of Directors.

Interested in learning more about how a newspaper is run? Fancy joining the team of core individuals at the heart of one of Cambridge’s best loved papers? Being a board member for The Cambridge Student is an excellent way to explore journalism in a way you’ve never been able to before, and will give you a real insight into the legal and logistical side of putting a paper together.

What is the Board of Directors?

The Board of Directors consists of the current Editor(s)-in-Chief, the previous print Editor-in-Chief, or if absent a previous Deputy Editor, two CUSU representatives, and two student board members elected by CUSU Council. The board gathers for meetings several times a terms to check up on the progress of the paper, and to consider its progress and legacy.

What is the Board in charge of?

  1. Safeguarding and promoting the aims of the Paper
  2. The long-term future of the Paper
  3. The selection of the Editor-in-Chief(s) 
  4. The handling of all complaints 
  5. Any other non-financial issues relating to the management of the paper
  6. Any large changes to the format of the Paper proposed by the Editor(s) that carry implications for its long-term future
  7. Ensuring that full handovers occur at every change of Editors, and that the Editor(s) receives any necessary training, and is clear on when matters should be referred to Board, as they enter their term of office
