Katy B will be headlining St John’s May Ball next week, it was announced yesterday. The Goldsmiths graduate, who was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2011 for her album On A Mission, and who released the chart-topping Little Red earlier this year, will be supported by the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and producer MNEK.

Tom Blackie, in joint charge of ents at the College’s May Ball committee along with Tom Zhang, is proud to be able to announce such big names: “We’re delighted to have bagged MNEK and Katy B. St John’s has a reputation as a party ball with a festival vibe, and I think this year will be no exception. Katy’s set at Radio 1’s big weekend in Glasgow was incredible, and we're really lucky to have her.

“As for MNEK, he’s simply one of the hottest new talents and personally I think he’ll be huge in the future. He’s mostly worked on producing during his career so far, but he’ll be coming to John’s with a five-piece band and we’re not sure what else to expect! It’s a new setup for them (they’ve never toured before), so we could be getting a first listen of some of the sounds of the summer!”

Katy B and MNEK will be joining a line-up that includes DJs Oneman and Floating Points, and comedian Nina Conti. John’s boasts a strong pedigree in attracting big-name acts, such as King Charles and Bombay Bicycle Club; it appears that this year’s line-up will continue this tradition.
