A Chinatown in Cambridge may be on the horizon

Locals Andrew Tse and Danny Wang have been approaching businesses over the last two years in the hope of officially designating a Chinatown area.  They are soon to meet with local MP Daniel Zeichner to discuss the proposal.

Cambridge has the highest concentration of Chinese people in the UK thanks to international students, businesses and tourists.

Chinatowns are big tourist attractions and the hope is that a Cambridge Chinatown would boost the area and also businesses which were not Chinese.

Tse told the Cambridge News that when London launched its Chinatown back in the sixties, it gave all local businesses nearby a boost - even though very few of the businesses were Chinese

The designated street would have Chinese language signs installed and a traditional Chinese archway to welcome visitors.
