"The Family Meal: Home cooking" with Ferran Adria

What is it?

The Family Meal is a compilation of the recipes created by Ferran Adria, the world’s most innovative chef, for his crew to enjoy every evening. They are accessible effective recipes, presented in 3 course menus and described with a wealth of pictures and comprehensible instructions. Recipes are international, with a slight Mediterranean bias. It is a perfect book for cooking novices, with a very complete and straightforward introductory section.

Best recipe?

Quick, simple, tasty and surprising: Pineapple with Honey and Lime. The combination of the tartness of pineapple, the sweetness of honey and acidity of lime result into an explosion of flavours. Not bothered to peal a fresh pineapple? Get pineapple in juice (£0.70!) and enjoy a different way of eating fruit.

Most impressive recipe?

Duck with chimichurri sauce. It is very simple, but a statement of taste and cuisine fusion, joining duck – associated with Asian cuisine – with one of the most known South American sauces (which is normally served with steak). A true must.

Strangest ingredient?

Crabs, to be used in Crab and Rice Stew. Indeed, they are not that strange. This is truly a midweek meal cookbook, so it goes for normal affordable ingredients, aiming at a £2-3 budget. Great!
