Varsity Twenty20 – Oxford 78-2 v Cambridge 22-3 – Match abandoned

Cuppers Final – Jesus 145 All out (Brown 55, Choudrey 6-21) v Gonville & Caius – Match abandoned

A sizeable crowd braved the wet weather to watch Cambridge aim to defend the Armada Dish in the second ever Twenty20 varsity match. After rain delays caused the abandonment of the Cuppers final, the Varsity match was reduced to a mere 7 overs per side.

In spite of a superb burst of express pace bowling from Ruel Brathwaite, Oxford smashed 4 sixes on their way to an impressive total of 78. It was a tough ask to chase down that score, and after star batsman Ansari fell, things were looking bleak, but luckily not as bleak as the weather. The rain forced even the shortened match to be abandoned, and spared Cambridge’s blushes.

Cambridge however, have a strong squad this year so will be looking to regroup for the one day varsity match at Lord’s.
