In a student media exclusive, James Burton and Zoah Hedges-Stocks witnessed the Queen open Cambridge’s newest laboratory
The Queen and Prince Philip visited Cambridge to open a new botanical research centre yesterday.
Her Majesty arrived at the Sainsbury Laboratory for Plant Sciences at 11 am, where she was greeted by Vice Chancellor Sir Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz. She was presented with flowers by pupils from Great St. Mary’s school before heading to St. John’s College to celebrate its 500th anniversary.
A crowd of around 2,000 turned out to watch and a band played the National anthem as the Queen cut a cake and received gifts, including a pocket watch engraved with the St. John’s crest.
