The Cambridge Student can reveal that the headliner for Gonville & Caius 2014 May Ball will be Duke Dumont, electro duo AlunaGeorge and indie band Young Kato will also be playing. The theme of the ball is ‘A brief history of time’ in honour of the college’s most famous fellow, Stephen Hawking, who will be attending.
Duke Dumont is known primarily for his huge hit “Need U (100%)” featuring A*M*E, which topped the UK charts soaring to Number 1 last April.

Other acts include artists such as AlunaGeorge, an electro duo, and Young Kato, an indie band. It is rumoured that two of the acts will be playing a duet.
The fame of the headline act will be mirrored in the guests: the President of Caius May Ball, Joe Ciardiello, has confirmed to TCS that Stephen Hawking will be attending the event. Hawking, a fellow of the college, announced the theme in a heartfelt speech in February.
‘A brief history of time’, Hawking’s most famous book published in 1988, was written largely based on research he performed at Cambridge. It has been turned into both a film and an opera and, now, a May Ball.

Caius May Ball has also boasted shorter queues this year, due to a new QR code system, which will allow all committee members to admit people using smartphones.
The ball will be held on the Tuesday of May Week. Student and alum applications for tickets closed last term, but applications for workers are still open.
