Go Compare the cold void of space: Hawking commits murder in new TV ad

This New Year Lucasian Professor of Mathematics Stephen Hawking will be gracing TV screens in an advert for the car insurance comparison site, GoCompare.

The advertisement, which first aired today, opens with Prof Hawking announcing to a packed lecture theatre that after a lifetime of research, he has finally calculated the conditions needed to create a supermassive black hole. It then cuts away to Hawking's daydream of a potential practical application of this: rescuing harassed car insurance shoppers from irritating opera singer Gio Compario – by sucking the tenor into space.

Hawking admitted a fondness for the famously annoying ad campaign: "I confess I am a fan of the Gocompare.com adverts, but I am also an opera fan, so I was delighted to be given the opportunity to help save the nation and silence Gio."

Astrophysics student Dick Benson, had this to say on Prof Hawking's evil plan: 'Let's hope Hawking has thought this through and made the black hole small enough that Gio dies pre-event horizon; I want a slow-mo of him being torn to bits.'

Hawking is no stranger to television, or comedy. He has previously shown his good sense of humour with appearances in Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory, and The Simpsons.

TCS were unable to confirm or deny rumours that Dr Mary Beard is in talks with a meerkat in a smoking jacket.
