There is an exciting job on offer at the University: the Lego professor of play, development and learning.
The Lego Foundation will fund the professorship but will have no say over the appointment. It hopes for someone with a “childlike mindset”, so that the professor can imaginatively expand research into play and playful learning, to encourage this instead of testing in schools.
The position is the first of its kind.
Commanding a possible salary of £83,981, the professor will lead the recently established Centre for Research on Play in Education, Development and Learning (Pedal).
Professor Anna Vignoles, interim director of Pedal, told The Guardian that at the moment “the value of play is relatively under-researched”.
Applications close on 20 January.
