Liam Livesley Talks Beer: Round 2

Liam Livesley 2 November 2013

After last week’s cliffhanger ending, I’m pleased to say that the South’s ale has delivered and I won’t be transferring somewhere with more hills and less chance of getting a bike embedded in my sternum.

This week’s highlights:

Farmers Glory, 4.7%, Wadworth Brewery, Devizes

Caramel and autumn fruits dominate and are just about balanced by subtle hops. True harvest ale that bridges the gap between summer lagers and winter stouts, although some tastes may find it too sweet.

Jesuan Ale, 3.6%, Milton Brewery, Waterbeach

Deceptively fresh and breezy lager-like first pass just fails to conceal a complex palette of mango and citrus. Gives way to a big bitter hit quickly tempered by returning earlier sweetness, not unlike the college that lends its name to the brew.
