Men’s hockey begin Varsity preparations in style

Sam Brooks 30 January 2014

After a hard week’s training, the hockey Blues were confident going into what was surely going to be the biggest physical challenge of the season against Dereham.

Cambridge got off to a flying start, and within three minutes, Dereham were hit by the force of Jamie Bristow drilling the ball into the bottom corner. Wesley Howell then added another before a string of world class saves from Brooks kept the score 2-0 at half-time.

After the break, the Blues asserted their dominance, with a brace from Sam Bowker and another strike from Howell. The pick of the goals came from Rory Preston, who smashed a reverse shot into the left-hand corner.

With the score at 7-0, the Blues controlled the closing minutes with strong defending. Overall, Cambridge put in a very impressive performance.
