Fez attack! Armed robbery in Cambridge nightclub

Staff at alternative nightclub Fez were threatened by an armed man early on Wednesday morning in the course of a robbery.

The thief, described as a 5ft 10 man of medium build wearing a balaclava, struck at about 5am whilst the club's staff were waiting for a delivery, threatening two people before making off towards Market Street with an as-yet undisclosed sum of money.

Detective Inspector Mark Newman of Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: "I would ask anyone who may have seen this incident this morning or has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the police." He added that officers in the area were hunting for the perpetrator and that the police "are doing everything we can to find him."

A first year History student who regularly visits Fez on Sundays said: "It does make you seriously concerned about safety issues around the club on a night out – I'd never have thought something like that would happen."

Ian Freeman, a spokesman for Eclectic Clubs and Bars, who own the Fez and Lola Lo chains, could neither confirm the weapon used nor the amount of money taken. He told TCS that the incident happened outside of normal working hours and reiterated several times that "the most important thing is that no staff were injured".
