Hot Numbers in Cambridge has recently been included in a list of the top 30 UK coffee shops.

Within an old Victorian brewery on Gwydir Street, as well as its other location on Trumpington Street, Hot Numbers describes itself as a “small batch independent coffee roasters and speciality coffee shop”.

Chloe Callow, Editor of Caffeine Magazine, compiled the list and described Hot Numbers as “sprawling and atmospheric”.

Coincidentally, the famous and quintessentially Cambridge Fitzbillies Chelsea Buns and Afternoon Tease chocolate Guinness Cake are also on offer at Hot Numbers. Both got a mention.

Including diverse coffee shops from throughout the UK, the likes of Workshop Fitzrovia and its “exquisite setting” in London and the contrasting Climpsons in East London are both mentioned.

Commenting to Cambridge News, Simon Fraser, owner of Hot Numbers, said he was delighted to be part of such a prestigious list.

“It was a complete surprise to discover we were in The Telegraph's list. Someone must have come in like a secret shopper.

“And it was really nice to have been selected seemingly just on atmosphere and coffee.

“The list didn't even mention that Hot Numbers is a roastery, which is one of its unique features, and part of what makes it really special.

“There's a certain atmosphere here but there are a lot of different characters that come together to make the cafe what it is and it's very much to do with music.

Hot Numbers regularly puts on gigs and other events, along with live music every Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Upcoming events include a Future Economies Talk, as well as numerous musical performances, such as a Jazz residency curated by Martin Kemp.
