Magdalene bans students from putting up Labour posters

Magdalene College has recently banned the putting up of Labour posters by its students, claiming that the action is a violation of its “college rules”.

The Tab reported that a student living in off-site accommodation was given a notice by the college calling for them to “remove the Labour posters from [their] window with immediate effect, as this is against college rules”.

This reportedly follows another incident in the College, this time involving the removal of a Labour poster from the college bar.

Speaking to The Cambridge Student, Magdalene's JCR President Alicia Pasiecznik said, "I understand college rules, but I question whether this would be the case in any other instance other than a political poster. Surely college should be encouraging freedom of political speech and expression, not suppressing it. This, along with the confiscation of a Labour poster in the college bar, makes it sound like our views are being silenced."
