Graduate Union Presidential Election results delayed

CUSU Elections Committee has decided to delay the announcement of the GU Presidential Election until Sunday at the earliest. In a statement released in the last hour, the Committee said that at least one candidate is still under investigation for disciplinary reasons. The Elections Committee also declared that the results of the election remain unknown to them.

A full statement will be released on Sunday alongside the judgement reached on the issue. Previously in the course of the campaign, Joe Cotton received a formal warning from the Elections Committee after Wolfson College communications released a statement suggesting their clear bias for his candidacy. Similarly, Mrittunjoy Guha Majumdar was called into a formal disciplinary meeting after a prior warning. Supporters of his campaign were accused of removing the campaign material of other candidates. The Election Committee were keen to emphasise that this is a “serious sanction” just short of a total campaigning ban but also that the evidence is anecdotal. The Committee conceded that Mrittunjoy had made sufficient effort to ensure the legal behaviour of his supporters. It remains unclear whom the most recent issue is about and the Elections Committee will issue no further comment at this time.
