Northampton Saints edge Cambridge 19-10

Clara Buxton 21 October 2014

On Monday night, the Blues took on last season’s Premiership winning Northampton Saints at Grange Road in front of a boisterous home crowd.

After Cambridge took an early lead through a penalty, the Saints hit back almost immediately scoring the first try of the game through Will Hooley. During the first half, the visitors were rarely troubled by the home side who struggled to penetrate the organised opposition defence.

To make life harder for the Cambridge Blues, just before the stroke of halftime the Saints scored their second try courtesy of a superb effort from Danny Hobbs Awoyemi.

After long periods of the game being dominated by the away side in the first half, the game got increasingly heated with a major scuffle brought to an end by the referee early in the second.

Shortly after, Joel Hodgson scored the Saints’ third try.

The home support had to wait until halfway through second half for Cambridge to score their first and only try of the match. Despite falling to defeat in the end, the Blues sterling effort was most definitely reflected in the relatively tight final score line.
