Petition demands Toope to refund fees

Beatrice McCartney 23 February 2018

A petition has been established demanding Vice-Chancellor Toope to refund student fees, reaching 767 signatories at the time of writing.

The petition, set up by undergrad student Tamara Brian last week, outlines how the students support their lecturers in their decision to strike, but argues that the strikes will have a significant impact on our education. The petition therefore demands £300 in compensation for every student who loses contact time as a result of the strike, judging this to be a fair share of the £9,000 annual tuition fees.

The strike, expected to run until 16th March, has led to the cancellation of lectures and supervisions as faculty staff protest the proposed cuts to their pensions.

Tamara Brian has been contacted for a comment.
