Pick-up lines: Corny or cute?

Ah, the cheesy pick up line. Loved by millions, used by thousands and pulled off by very few. My personal favourite is: “You must be tired, because you’ve been running through my mind all day”. Let’s just break this conversational gem down a bit. Firstly, are you suggesting that I look red, sweaty and like I am in need of an inhaler? Because it took me quite a while to get ready for tonight, so that’s just plain rude. Secondly, if this is our first meeting, why have you been thinking about me already? Have you been stalking me? Because I’m not sure I’m cool with that.

Second favourite: “Are you a library book? Because I’d like to check you out”. Are you not already checking me out? I didn’t realise (not that I'm complaining!) that it was now common courtesy to ask before one leered over members of the opposite sex. What would you like me to say?; “Yes, yes I am a library book but I’m afraid I am reserved for someone else to check me out?” or “Absolutely! By all means, perv away!”

Really, guys (and gals), what is so wrong about walking up to somebody, saying hello and introducing yourself? Don't get me wrong, there are are some special lines which are so cheesy they just have to be meant as a joke, in which case well done for making me laugh straight off the bat. Laughter is a great ice breaker, but really, if we’re going to get on for more than 30 seconds, it’s probably best to use some normal funny sentences, because I fail to see how you’re going to continue talking in pick up lines, innuendos and quite frankly confusing riddles for any prolonged period of time.
