Professor Stephen Hawking may leave Cambridge

9 March 2010

Stephen Hawing has threatened to leave his post at the University. He says that he is unhappy with government cuts to university funding which, in his opinion, is limiting progress in science. The Government has announced cuts to higher education amounting to roughly £1 billion over three years. Professor Hawking will spend two months at the Perimeter Institute in Ontario, Canada, this summer. If the trip is successful, it is reported that he will consider a permanent move to the Institute. However, a spokesman for the University has denied that Professor Hawking is planning to leave Cambridge.
