Last weekend saw fierce battle on the river, with four boats sparring in the coxed and uncoxed categories.

On the final day of University 4s, King’s M1 won the coxed category with Queen’s coming in second. Earlier in the week Lady Margaret triumphed in the W1 division and Downing in W2. Cauis won the M1 coxless division.

Attention was fixed on King’s following a strong start to the season. After a close quarter-finals against last year’s joint victors Queens’, the tension was mounting. In a fateful encounter, they found themselves in the final against last year’s victors, Caius. However, they delivered on the finishing line, putting a length between themselves and their rivals in a race upon which the fierce weather largely impacted.

In the W1 race Lady Margaret Boat Club took advantage of Cauis suffering a crab and crossed the finishing line with a time of 61s. With competition between King’s, Queens’ and Cauis intensifying, it bodes well for an exciting winter season.
