The first few minutes of the game were dominated by Oxford possession and it seemed like we could be in for a tough match, but a solid Cambridge rearguard quickly turned things around. The first quarter showed us the strength of their goalie though as we had multiple attempts on target thwarted. Once we were able to find our feet on the rather muddy pitch, Cambridge took over the possession and two quick goals came from Henry Miller and Craig Winfield.

An Oxford penalty led to a free position by Ella Gibbon which unfortunately hit the post, but a second free position by Charlie Nye added another goal to the score board. Oxford snatched possession off the draw but a great turnover in defence by Cameron Booker followed by a text book passing move down the pitch ended in a second goal of the afternoon for Charlie Nye. 4-0, a successful first quarter.

Starting the second quarter confidently we saw a great interception by captain Katherine Phillips, setting up a goal for Craig Winfield. Unfortunately, some careless offside calls led to a successful Oxford free position and dangerous Dark Blue attacks resulted in a 5-3 end to the half, clinging onto our lead courtesy of some great saves by Will Davies.

Cambridge were under the cosh, but after a firm team talk the team were back in focus, and two quick goals settled the nerves. However, the need for first aiders as the opposition collided with Cameron Booker didn't exactly help stress levels. There was some defensive heroics from Jack Eastwood, managing to hold off three attackers at once and intercepting the ball. The turnover led to a settle in attack and an excellent goal by Caterina QC ending the quarter 10-3. The teams exchanged goals in the final 15, and so it finished with a comfortable 11-4 win for the Light Blues, returning the trophy to the Cambridge mantlepiece for the sixth year in a row.

Man of the match: Craig Winfield.
