Stephen Hawking calls for technology to be controlled

Matt Gurtler 13 March 2017

Cambridge-based physicist, Stephen Hawking has said that the rise of technology could be potentially dangerous for humanity. He said that humans are hard-wired for advancement, but the current trajectory of nuclear and biological weaponry could very quickly lead to the human race destroying itself.

Hawking suggested that "some form of world government" would be a solution to the problem as global unity would slow the progress of weapons technology.

However he recognises that putting one person or group in charge of the world has its own problems, as this group may become tyrannical.
