Cambridge were held to a thrilling 7-7 draw against rivals Oxford in their final pre-Varsity match clash on Wednesday.
In pouring rain on a muddy pitch, the Light Blues opened with a goal from Sophie Morrill. This was followed by goals from Anna Pugh, Daniella Allard and Lara Pleydell-Bouverie. However, Oxford pierced the Cambridge defence and hit back with five goals to lead 5-4.
In the second half, the Light Blues came out and raised their game. The defence did well to resist Oxford’s attempts on goal after a yellow card left Cambridge a player down.
Further goals from Marina Lindsay-Brown and Morrill brought the score to 7-7 at full time. Woman of the match was goalkeeper Ari Midgen for her exceptional saves and supportive defensive play in pressure situations.
