Women’s Basketball come up short against Birmingham

The Womens’ Blues Basketball Team started the first game of the term against the University of Birmingham brimming with energy, despite missing several players. Antonia Mattos led the charge with an 8 point run, supported by steady post points from Maya Beano.

The first half saw the teams evenly matched, with each team playing a fast and sure game. Four points down, Cambridge continued into the third quarter strong, with solid inside play by forward Stacy Gilfillan and strong blocks from Stephanie Polderdijk. However, the shortage of players took its toll on the team in the fourth quarter.

Despite valiant defence and powerful drives from captain Hilary Costello, the Birmingham team began to find its stroke, pulling away the score line and ending the game with a score of 65-47. The Blues are confident in bouncing back from this defeat in the next few away games. They will be playing the Varsity Match against Oxford on 23rd of February at Kelsey Kerridge and welcome supporters to attend.
